Controversy Accusations of Forcing A Maid To End Her Life
In the 2023 Presidential elections, allegations were made by opposition parties against Mohamed Muizzu. They claimed that, during his tenure as the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure in 2012, he coerced his expatriate maid into taking her own life. These parties also claimed that the maid’s suicide was the result of his malicious intentions towards her. However, Muizzu’s wife refuted these accusations during a rally, saying that the opposition was disseminating false information to damage her husband’s reputation. She emphasized that law enforcement had conducted a detailed investigation into the matter but found no evidence to support these claims. She said,

“Allegations of murder and rape. Even from looking at our society, there should be some consideration to the level of spreading fallacies. Taking this to such an extent is extremely saddening. It really is saddening when they spread such rumors to tarnish someone’s reputation.” [1]The Edition
