Dr M. Srinivas is an Indian physician who belongs to Karnataka, India. He came into the limelight on 9 September 2022 when he was appointed as the director of AIIMS, Delhi for a period of five years or till attaining the age of 65, whichever is earlier. He was chosen for the position by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which is headed by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India and the order of his appointment was issued by the Under Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.


Dr M. Srinivas was born on Friday, 11 August 1966  (age 56 years; as of 2022) in Gandhi Nagar, district Yadgir, Karnataka, India. His zodiac sign is Leo. He completed his primary school education at Government Model Primary School at Station Bazar locality, Yadgir, Karnataka and high school education at Government New Kannada Proudha Shaale, Yadgir, Karnataka. Soon after completing his school education, he went to PU College in Yadgir, Karnataka to pursue his graduate degree. later, he completed his MBBS at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary, India and his MCH (Master Chirurgiae) degree from AIIMS, New Delhi.

Parents & Siblings

His father’s name is Ashappa, and he is a retired tehsildar. He has a brother named Dr Nagaraj who works as a dentist. Nagaraj served as a Dean at (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) ESIC in Kalaburagi. Nagaraj then transferred to ESIC, New Delhi in 2022. While talking to a media house, Nagaraj revealed that Srinivas aimed to become a civil service officer, but eventually chose the medical field. Nagaraj said,
Nothing is impossible if a student points to his life’s goal and works hard to reach it. My brother is an example to the younger generation.”


Dr M. Srinivas joined the pediatric surgery department of AIIMS, Delhi and began working as a Professor in the special expert division. Thereafter, in 2016, he was designated as Dean in Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Medical College and Hospital in Hyderabad, where he was in charge to revive the ESIC Hospital and Medical College of Hyderabad. he was then appointed as the director of AIIMS in September 2022 after succeeding Randeep Guleria who had been serving the role since March 2017.

  • According to Dr M. Srinivas, the growth of an institution is a crucial factor in the success of a country’s system. While talking to a media reporter Dr M. Srinivas cited that institutions must run beyond individuals. He said,
    Building institutions is important. Individual are nobody. Today we are here, tomorrow we won’t be. So the system is important. If this institution runs beyond me, it’s not my success. It’s system’s success.”
  • According to the brother of M Srinivas, many departments of ESIC in Hyderabad grew and improved during M. Srinivas’ tenure and these improvements led to Srinivas’s appointment as the director of AIIMS. Nagaraj said,
    The Department of Health and Family Welfare has observed remarkable changes that he had made in ESIC, Hyderabad. Under his tenure, the ESIC gained improvement in all sections, which helped him to emerge as the Chief of AIIMS, New Delhi.”
