  • Gaurav Bhatia is a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of India. In 2017, he was appointed as the National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
  • In 2012, he was appointed as an additional advocate general (AGG) for the Akhilesh Yadav government; however, in 2016, his position was revoked by the Uttar Pradesh government. During the same time, he worked with the Samajwadi Party as its National Spokesperson and the National President of the Samajwadi Party’s Legal Wing.
  • Soon after joining the Supreme Court of India as an advocate, he was appointed as the Bar Association’s Honorary Secretary of Supreme Court from 2015 to 2017. He then worked as an Advocate-on-Record of the Supreme Court of India before being designated as a Senior Advocate.

    In a response to Bhatia’s allegations, Hamid Ansari said that the invitations sent to the foreign delegates were on the advice of the Government of India or the Ministry of External Affairs. He added that he never invited Nusrat Mirza to India. Hamid said,
    I had inaugurated the Conference on Terrorism, on December 11, 2010, the ‘International Conference of Jurists on International Terrorism and Human Rights’. As is the normal practice, the list of invitees would have been drawn by the organisers. I never invited him or met him.”
