Some Lesser Known Facts About Revanth Reddy
- Anumula Revanth Reddy is an Indian politician. He was appointed as the second Chief Minister of Telangana on 7 December 2023 as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He joined the INC in 2017 after leaving the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He served as an MP representing the Malkajgiri constituency and as a two-time MLA representing Kodangal as a TDP candidate. As the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), Revanth Reddy led his party to victory in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election, ending the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) 10-year rule.

- When Revanth was in the Youth Congress as a student and met Jaipal Reddy, who introduced him to Geeta. Reportedly, initially, there was some opposition to their marriage, but their families eventually agreed. In 1992, he got married when he was 24 years old.
- In 2001, he joined TRS, the original version of BRS but left in 2006 after not being given a ticket. In 2004, he joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and began his political career as a party worker. He then contested the local body elections in 2006 and won as the ZPTC member from Midjil Mandal as an independent candidate.

- In 2007, Revanth Reddy became a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent candidate. After that, he met with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and joined the Telugu Desam Party as its member.

- In 2009, Revanth Reddy became a member of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from the Kodangal constituency on the ticket of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He defeated the incumbent and five-time MLA Gurunath Reddy from Congress (INC) and earned 46.46% of the votes. He served as an MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from 2009 to 2014.
- Reportedly, in the Assembly, Revanth impressed N. Chandrababu Naidu with his speaking skills and contributions.
- In 2009, when Indian students were facing attacks in Australia, Reddy went to Melbourne to meet international students from India. He visited hospitals and travelled on trains and public transport in Melbourne to meet victims and talk to Indian students. This helped him understand the situation better. He also went to the Victorian Parliament and attended meetings with the then Victorian Opposition Leader ‘Ted Baillieu’ and Ministerial Adviser ‘Mr Nitin Gupta.’ Reportedly, his purpose of the visit was to express concerns about Indian students being attacked in Melbourne, Australia.
- From 2014 to 2018, he served as an MLA in the Telangana Assembly. In the 2014 undivided Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, he contested and won a seat in the Telangana Assembly from the Kodangal constituency with a lead of 14,614 votes against Gurunath Reddy. Thereafter, he was elected as the floor leader of the Telugu Desam Party in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
- On 31 May 2015, Revanth Reddy was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a sting operation. He was caught bribing a nominated MLA named Elvis Stephenson to vote for the TDP candidate in the Legislative Council election. ACB filed a criminal case against Reddy, Bishop Sebastian Harry, and Uday Simha under the Prevention of Corruption Act and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. - On 25 October 2017, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) removed him as the floor leader of the Telangana TDP after reports suggested he might join the Indian National Congress party. He officially joined Congress on 31 October 2017.
- In the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections, he contested on the ticket of the Indian National Congress from the Kodangal constituency and lost to TRS candidate Patnam Narender Reddy, marking his first defeat in any election. He was then appointed one of the three working presidents of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on 20 September 2018.

- Following his defeat in the 2018 Telangana legislative assembly election, Reddy successfully contested the 2019 general election from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency on the ticket of the Indian National Congress and defeated his closest competitor and TRS candidate, Marri Rajashekar Reddy. Revanth Reddy won the elections by a margin of 10,919 votes which constituted 38.63% of the total votes.
- In June 2021, Reddy was appointed as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee and replaced N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. He assumed the new role on 7 July 2021.
- Once, in a media interview, one of his colleagues shared that Revanth Reddy rose from a very humble background. He said,
Revanth is a very decent politician. He may use harsh language to attack a political opponent, but that is to be expected because he is very vocal, very aggressive. His main strength is his loyalty… He was very loyal to the TDP and Chandrababu Naidu too.”
- In July 2021, he was house arrested at his home in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, before a scheduled protest regarding accusations of Rs. 1,000 crore corruption in the e-auction of government lands. In December 2021, the police restricted him to his residence again as he was planning to participate in a farmer protest in Bhupalpally concerning paddy procurement.
- In 2023, he led the Congress’ successful campaign against the incumbent Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in the Telangana Legislative Assembly election. His party won 64 seats. During these elections, he contested from the Kodangal constituency and won, and contested from the Kamareddy constituency and lost.

- Once, in a media discussion, one of his colleagues shared that Revanth Reddy was a good orator and was ranked second after Naidu. His colleague said,
He can work up a crowd… But he is also very meticulous. He prepares hard, whether Assembly sessions or political meetings or gatherings.”
