Career

As an Entrepreneur

Vandana had a vision of bringing beauty and wellness to every Indian household and making her brand VLCC a household name. According to her, it was hard to establish herself as a woman entrepreneur in a male-dominated society. She opened her first outlet in Krishna Nagar, Safdarjung Enclave in New Delhi in 1989 by using her savings and taking a bank loan. In a video, Vandana explains that it was a running place that was about to shut down, a thousand square foot area in size, near a cow shed. She also collaborated with doctors and medical professionals to provide cosmetology services and weight management plans.
“My approach was scientific and I started working with doctors from day one. This worked in our favour too. From day one I was clear that the brand would not be a glamorous one. The center was a clinic and was projected in that very manner.”

Since then, VLCC has become a brand well-known in India as well as abroad (South Asia, South East Asia, the GCC region, and east Africa.) The company has expanded from being a wellness and beauty center to a training institute with over 90 VLCC Institutes of Beauty & Nutrition around the globe. VLCC has its own R&D centers and Vandana makes sure that the company is always updated with the latest technology.
