Stalker behind fire that killed 7 held in MP after a 10-km chase

INDORE: The stalker who sparked an inferno in an Indore building that killed seven people after he set fire to a girl’s parked scooter early Saturday was arrested after a 10km chase that ended with him ramming his two-wheeler into a road divider.
Sanjay alias Shubham Dixit, a Bhopal-based engineering student, claimed he was trying to get even with the girl because she allegedly cheated him. He was charged with murder, attempt to murder and illegal use of explosive substances with intent to destroy a house.
Shubham’s father is an engineer with the railways, police said. “He was angry over the impending marriage of a girl living as a tenant in that building,” a police officer said. “He had been constantly calling the girl and harassing her. She blocked his number, at which he was furious.” Police said CCTV footage showed the suspect, who used to be a tenant in the same building, pour petrol on the girl’s scooter from a bottle and set fire to it. “The girl unblocked the accused to inform him about the fire incident. But he didn’t admit to his crime,” DCP (zone 2) Sampat Upadhyay said.
