Some Lesser Known Facts About Balkar Sidhu
- Balkar Singh Sidhu is an Indian politician and Singer. He is popular for lending his voice to one of the most famous hits of Punjabi music “Majhe Diye Mombatiye”. In 2022, he became a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Rampura Phul constituency of Punjab, India.
- Since childhood, Balkar Sidhu was a very athletic student who took part in every sports activity in his school and he was a fan of Indian athlete Milkha Singh and considered him to be his idol.
- He pursued a Bachelor of Arts at the Punjabi University, Patiala; during his graduation, he participated in many extracurricular activities including theatre and singing. He performed many theatre shows for Kissan Union in Chandigarh during his college days.
- In 1991, Balkar Singh Sidhu made his singing debut when he was in college, he released the album “Karna Chhad De Pyar” along with five songs. He went on to release numerous other albums and the Punjabi song “Din Pepran De” later on. Sidhu has put out nineteen albums in total. His songs “Maje Diye Mombatiye” and “Vyah” from his album “Laung Taviteriaan” (2003) brought him fame and recognition. The songs “Channa Vo,” “Joan,” “Phulkari,” “Aina Tainu Pyar Kran,” and “Viyah are also among Balkar Sidhu’s most well-known ones.
- In the Punjabi music industry, he has made a name for himself by fusing contemporary pop music with traditional Punjabi. In 2021, his collaboration with Punjabi singer Gurlej Akhtar on the song Tera Mora Viah” is one of his most recognizable ones. He has collaborated with many Punjabi singers including Popsy and Jasmeen Akhtar. He performs live shows during election rallies, and also at marriage functions.

- During an interview, he talked about allegations made against him for human trafficking and being dismissed from the Aam Aadmi Party he claimed the rumours were all fake and said,
At the time of the by-polls, various false charges had been levelled against me but the AAP failed to prove any charge later on. Now, I will seek a reply from them by filing a case in the court for defaming me.After Punjabi comedian-turned-politician Bhagwant Mann joined AAP and later become MP from Sangrur, several actors in the state connected with the party and thought it was sincere and committed to clean the system. However, as time passed, people realised AAP is not what it used to be. They just made big promises to garner votes. They have no policy, no agenda, no programme for the people.”
